  Chapter 1

Yasmin stormed toward the burning building. Renee ran after her. A fireman caught Yasmin by the waist and pulled her back.

“Let me go. I have to go to him,” Yasmin cries.

“I’m sorry, Miss but I can’t let you go in there,” the fireman said.

“He’s right, Yasmin. Listen to him,” Renee implored.

“You don’t understand. My boyfriend is inside and I heard a gun fire,” Yasmin pleaded.

“All the more reason why you can’t go in. It’s too dangerous. You will have to wait,” the fireman replied.

  “But Hunter—

“Let us do our job. We’ll get him out,” he said brusquely.

  “In what condition?” Yasmin demanded.

The fireman looked at her grimly then he turned to Renee.

“Keep her out of our way,” he said to Renee. He then hurried away.

  “Damn him!” Yasmin yelled.

“Calm down, Yas.” Renee advised. “It will be alright. Hunter will be fine,” Renee tried to assure her.

“There were gunshots, Renee. I heard them,” Yasmin gasped.

“I heard them too. But that doesn’t mean that Hunter has been shot. Don’t think the worse,” Renee said. “Now is the time to have faith that Hunter is fine.”

“Easier said than done. I felt something was off when Hunter had to go into the office. It didn’t feel right,” Yasmin said. “Now the warehouse is burning to a crisp, Hunter is inside of it and that nut-job Ryan is on the loose. It’s real hard to have faith right now, Renee.”

“Now is when you need it most. Hold on to it, Yasmin. The I Am will come through for you. Do not doubt Him now,” Renee insisted.

“You’re right. And I’ll try to be positive but I know that Ryan is behind all of this. He’s crazy enough to do something like this,” Yasmin replied.

  “Who’s crazy enough?”

Yasmin and Renee turned to see a tall, broad African American policeman standing behind them. Yasmin was momentarily shocked. It was one thing to accuse Ryan of burning the warehouse to Renee. But quite another to repeat her suspicions to the police. She didn’t have any proof that Ryan was responsible and was hesitant to put the police on his trail.

“And you are?” Yasmin asked. She could see he was a police officer but she was stalling for time.

“Detective John Stone. I’m investigating the fire and the shots that were fired,” he answered.

“Do you have any idea of how the fire started?” Renee asked.

“Not yet. The firemen will investigate the cause when the blaze is distinguished,” he answered. “Who were you talking about just now?”

“Nobody,” Yasmin answered distractedly. “What’s taking so long? The longer he stays in there the worst it could be for him.”

“Don’t think that way, Yas. He’ll be out soon,” Renee said as she put a comforting arm around Yasmin’s shoulders.

The policeman eyed the women closely. They had deliberately dodged his question. They knew something. He was sure of it. Who were they protecting? He would back off for now but had every intention of pursuing his gut feeling when this crisis was over. Yasmin and Rene peered through the smoky warehouse doorway anxiously; willing Hunter to come through it. Several long moments later two firemen carried Hunter from the burning building.

  “Hunter!” Yasmin cried.

Yasmin darted forward, reaching Hunter’s side as they laid him on an ambulance gurney.

  “Hunter! What happened,” Yasmin gasped.

Hunter turned his head to look at her.

“Yasmin. What are you doing here?” he croaked. He winced as he spoke the words.

“I felt something was wrong and I had to come. Were you shot?” Yasmin asked.

He nodded. Yasmin clapped her hand over her mouth.

“Back away, miss. We need to get him to the hospital,” the male paramedic said.

Renee tried to pull Yasmin back but she resisted.

“I’m coming with you,” Yasmin said asserted.

“Let’s go,” the medic said crisply.

The medics put Hunter in the ambulance and Yasmin climbed in to sit beside him.

“I’ll follow you to the hospital,” Renee called.

Yasmin raised her hand to indicate that she’d heard her. Renee took off running as the medics shut the ambulance door.

  “Are you mister Treveign’s wife?”

Yasmin turned to see a nurse wearing scrubs approaching her. The nurse pulled off her plastic surgery cap and ran her hand through her short blond hair as she stopped before her.

“I’m his girlfriend. How is he?” Yasmin asked urgently.

“He’s being moved into recovery. Doctor Woodson will be out to speak with you shortly,” the nurse answered.

  “But how—

The nurse briskly walked away leaving Yasmin frustrated and ticked. She turned to face Renee.

“She couldn’t answer a simple question?” Yasmin snapped.

“She’s just following protocol, Yas. The doctor will answer your questions,” Renee soothed.

  “He had better,” Yasmin retorted.

Yasmin and Renee had been waiting for what seemed like hours for Hunter to come out of surgery. Yasmin had been frantic by the time the ambulance had arrived at the hospital. She had been bombarded with questions regarding Hunter’s closest relative. Yasmin knew that Hunter’s parents were traveling abroad but had no clue as to where they were at the moment. It had become Yasmin’s responsibility to sign release forms for Hunter to have surgery. She had signed the forms and then demanded answers from Doctor Woodson. All he would tell her was that the bullet was lodged near Hunter’s spleen and it may be necessary to remove the organ along with the bullet. Yasmin was beyond worried and thanked God that Renee was there with her. Finally the surgeon came out to speak with her. He was a rather short Caucasian man, somewhere in his forties with a receding hairline.

  “Miss Beauchamp?” the doctor asked.

  “Yes,” Yasmin answered.

“The surgery went well. We had no recourse but to remove the spleen because the bullet had nipped it significantly,” Doctor Woodson said. “Both the bullet and the damaged spleen were removed successfully and mister Treveign is in recovery.”

“Is he in pain?” Yasmin asked fearfully.

“He will experience some pain when he awakens but we will give him medication to relieve it,” he said. “The best thing he can do right now is to sleep. The body needs time to restore itself.”

“Thank you for speaking with me. May I see him?” Yasmin asked.

  “Yes, briefly. But
only one person may go in,” he consented. “The nurse will show you the way.”

He pointed to the nurse at the desk then moved away. Yasmin walked to the desk and the nurse escorted her to Hunter’s room. Yasmin entered the room silently and moved to the bed. Hunter lay quietly as he slept. Yasmin sat on a short stool on rollers and clasped Hunter’s hand. She raised his hand to her lips and kissed it gently.

“Oh Hunter,” she said softly. “You scared me to a thousand deaths. Don’t ever do that to me again. I was so afraid for you. Thank God you are alright. I don’t know what I would do without you. You mean so much to me.”

Hunter did not answer nor even open his eyes. But Yasmin felt him squeeze her hand ever so slightly. He had heard her and that was enough.

  *****

Hunter had been at home for three days and he was recuperating well despite being a horrible patient. Yasmin was amazed at how stubborn and uncooperative he could be. He was like a spoiled child that was being denied his favorite toy. This morning was no different than the previous days and Yasmin’s patience had worn to a frazzle. Yasmin had prepared Hunter’s favorite breakfast foods and brought the laden tray into his bedroom.

“Good morning, Hunter. I’ve brought you some of your favorite foods,” she said brightly.

Hunter was sitting up in bed and he looked at her disgruntledly.

  “I’m not hungry,” he grunted.

That remarked pissed Yasmin off to no end. She laid the tray across his lap.

  “Eat it anyway!” she snapped.

How dare he behave in such an ungrateful manner when she was working her fingers to the bone to take care of him? He needed a reality check and now was better than later. He looked at her in surprise. He had never seen Yasmin annoyed with him and he was truly shocked. She stood there with her fists on her hips and a look of pure loathing on her face. Her anger with him was doubling over like an erupting volcano and he dared not say a word of objection. He picked up his fork and began eating. She turned and stormed out of the room. He could hear pots and utensils being thrown into the sink. He had pissed her off royally and upon reflection of the last few days he could understand her reaction. He had behaved abominably toward her and there was no excuse for it. It wasn’t her fault that he was laid up. He took the risk of going into that burning warehouse and was paying the price. He was taking his frustration of not being able to retaliate against Ryan out on her. And that was unfair. He heard another clang and grimaced. Hadn’t he heard never to make a sista mad? He needed to do something about it. He finished most of his breakfast and set the tray aside on the bed. He then threw the covers back and slowly swung his legs to the side of the bed. He paid for his movements with a sharp pain in his side. His healing wound protested his actions but he could not remain in bed another moment. He needed to apologize to Yasmin and he was going to do it standing on his two feet. He put his hand on the bedside table to steady his rise from the bed. He felt a little woozy as he stood but he didn’t collapse. He stood still for a moment to allow the dizziness to pass. Then he took a step toward the door then another. So far so good. He braced his hand against the wall as he made his way down the hall and to the elevator. He thanked the gods that he’d had the conveyance installed. He had no idea that he would need it when he ordered its installation. But he was glad that it was there. He took it down to the first floor and slowly made his way to the kitchen. He arrived at the kitchen and saw Yasmin standing at the sink with her back to him.

“If I say I’m sorry will you promise not to throw a skillet at me?” he asked softly.

Yasmin gasped as she spun around.

“Hunter! You shouldn’t be out of bed,” she exclaimed.

She hurried to his side and assisted him to a chair at the kitchen table. He slumped into the chair and grasped her wrist as she tried to move away.

  “Sit with me,” he murmured.

  She shook her head negatively.

“No Hunter. Your wound has not completely healed,” she objected.

He yanked on her wrist and pulled her onto his lap.

  “I’m healed enough,” he muttered.

He then captured her lips in a scorching kiss. Yasmin yielded immediately. It seemed like forever since they last kissed and she missed his touch terribly. His tongue roamed her mouth leisurely as he tasted every inch of her. It wasn’t long before his hand glided down her belly to her thighs to her haven. He fingered her furiously through her pants and Yasmin responded instantly. Her panties became damp as she imagined his cock thrusting into her eager hollow. Hunter unbuttoned her pants and slid down the zipper. He had maneuvered his fingers into her panties when she suddenly realized where things were going. She clasped his hand to stop his wandering fingers.

  “We can’t, Hunter,” she gasped.

“Why not. It doesn’t cause me pain to pleasure you. Let me,” he whispered.

“But I can’t return the favor. Besides, I have to remember that I’m not very pleased with you right now,” she said pointedly.

“After the last few minutes I would beg to differ,” he said cockily.

Yasmin slid from his lap and moved away from him. She wanted to smack that smug smile light-years from his face.

“That’s comparing apples to oranges. You know I will always respond to you sexually. I can’t seem to help it,” she said. “But that’s completely different from the displeasure I’m feeling for you at this moment. You’ve been uncooperative, stubborn, rude and frankly down right horrid. I will not tolerate such obnoxious behavior from you any longer. I’ve had it.”

Hunter looked at her intently as he stood. She took a hasty step toward him but he raised his hand to forestall her. He felt a bit shaky but he did not fall.

“You’re right and I’m sorry. That’s the reason why I made the trek downstairs. I wanted to apologize to you,” he said sincerely. “I am totally incapable of responding to Ryan as I want to and I’m taking my frustration out on you. That’s deplorable and completely unacceptable. Will you forgive my despicable behavior?”

Yasmin was taken aback. She had been ready to wallow in self-righteousness and remain angry with him. But his soul bearing apology had put a brand new spin on the matter. How could she not forgive him after such an honest and genuine apology? She couldn’t. Yasmin had never been one to hold a grudge and she couldn’t begin now. She rolled her eyes heavenward and sighed deeply.

“I forgive you, Hunter,” she whispered.

“Thank you, sweetheart. I am truly sorry and it won’t happen again,” he pledged.

“I believe you, Hunter,” she smiled. She saw him falter and she rushed to his side. “Let me help you back to bed. You need to rest.”

He nodded and Yasmin helped his rise and they slowly made their way back to their bedroom. She settled him in bed and would have moved away but he would not release her hand.

“Lay with me for a while. I want to feel you next to me,” he sighed. He saw her hesitation. “Please, Yas.”

Yasmin could not refuse such a poignant entreaty.

“Just for a few minutes,” she relented.

She got into bed and snuggled against his uninjured side. Yasmin sighed and accepted that she was right where she wanted to be. She couldn’t think of any other place she would rather be. It wasn’t long before they both slept.

  *****

Yasmin woke to find Hunter still sleeping. She peeped at the bedside clock to see that they had been asleep for several hours. She must have been more tired than she thought and Hunter had certainly needed the rest. But they had been asleep for a while and she had an idea. She pushed the covers back to get out of bed and noticed that Hunter had removed his pajama bottoms at some point during their nap. He had plans for when they awakened. Well, so did she. She quietly slipped from the bed and removed her clothing then slid back next to him. When they were in the kitchen Hunter had wanted to please her. Well, he was incapacitated and couldn’t do the job completely. But that didn’t mean that she coul
dn’t pleasure him. His wound was healing and he certainly could withstand a little excitement that was administered to him. She looked at his flaccid penis as it lay tucked in his groin. She knew it wouldn’t be that way for long as she thought of the things she was about to do to it. She extended her hand and gently cupped it. It instantly sprung to life. Yasmin marveled at the feel of it growing and hardening in her palm. It was soon long and firm and she couldn’t resist running her tongue along its length. She trailed her tongue up and down his cock; enjoying the texture and taste of him.

“What are you doing, Yas?” he gasped.

“I thought my actions would speak for themselves,” she quipped.

  “I can’t enter—

“This is my seduction. Lie there and enjoy,” she smiled.

She continued to lick and kiss his throbbing cock as she fingered his balls. He sucked in his breath when she moved her mouth to suckle them. He grabbed her head to position her lips over the tip of his penis.

“Take me, Yasmin. Now!” he demanded.

His accent was thick in his passion. Yasmin loved the sound of it. She opened her mouth and he pushed inside of it. She sighed deeply as she sucked his cock at her leisure. She enjoyed giving him a blow job; he tasted so frickin’ good. She did know how long she suckled him but she could feel that he was about to explode. She withdrew her mouth and moved to kiss his entire body. She tongued his navel then glided her mouth to his nipples where she teased, tugged and licked. He groaned as desire washed over him. He pulled her up so that he could suck her breasts and Yasmin cried out with pleasure. He may not be able to bang her at will but he could still ignite her flame. She could feel the tingles spreading throughout her haven. Yasmin couldn’t wait to feel him inside of her. Hunter pulled her down to kiss her mouth and their tongues danced with one another for what seemed like ages.
